Randolph’s 25 boards power Grizzlies past Knicks

Deron Williams says he plays better when he’s angry. After the Utah Jazz lost Friday night in Sacramento, Williams was steaming mad and took it out on the Houston Rockets. “I felt a lot of motivation. I wasn’t happy with the way I’ve been playing, so I wanted to come out and set the tone early,” said Williams, who scored 20 of his 35 points in the first quarter in Utah’s…

New York Vinnie has been a sports fan since I was just a little boy; however I only really follow three sports. The NBA, the NFL and Major League Baseball. New York Vinnie does not watch the Olympics, extreme-sports, MMA, Tennis or Golf. Now New York Vinnie has no problems with these sports; they just hold no interest for me in the slightest. You are not going to find New York Vinnie glued in front of the TV set watching a curling tournament this month or on a Sunday afternoon in the summer watching the final holes of a golf match.
Now although New York Vinnie could not fill a thimble when it comes to my knowledge of the game of golf; a person would have had to have been in a Frickin coma over the last ten years not to know the effect that Tiger Woods has had on the game. Woods has transcended the sport and become a household name and until recently he was thought of as the “Golden God Of Sports” as he could seemingly do no wrong. That label however fell by the curb late last year when stories started circulating that the supposed devoted husband and father turned out to have his own little harem going.
It turns out our Sixteenth President Abraham Lincoln was wrong; “You Can Fool All The People All The Time!” However if your dirty little secrets get out; Good Frickin Luck To You! It is bad enough to do wrong; but when you can delude people into thinking you are a hero while you are doing wrong they will want a piece of your Frickin scalp! Just ask O.J. Simpson, Michael Vick and Gilbert Arenas who have all gone through the experience.
New York Vinnie had no intention of mentioning Woods in an article until I happened to catch his apology that he issued on Friday February 19. But he brought up a point that New York Vinnie has mentioned quite a few times on these pages. That is a Pro Athlete’s “Sense Of Entitlement” which Woods said he used to justify in his mind the bad things that he was doing. Because he is talented and rich and famous that he can live at a different set of standards than those of “Mortal Man.”
Now kind of Frickin self-justification goes on all the time in Pro Sports and that is why we end up with Gilbert Arenas and Michael Vick type players. And the problem is it starts when they are kids and lasts their whole lives. They get away with things or get extra stuff because of their talent and then they come to expect it.
We are all aware that we have a messed up set of values in our Era as we pay men who play a little boys game millions of dollars. But we do the same Frickin thing with Actors, Singers, Models and all other folks who are Entertainers. Now New York Vinnie believes that any person in any profession should be able to earn what ever the market will bear. But that does not mean that if you have a skill or a talent that your moral code should be different from any other human being.
There will only be a difference if we as a society demand it. Let us show our Pro Athletes that they can longer get away with bad behavior because they are entitled to it.
Michael Jordan is not to be denied, be it for a NBA championship, a MVP award, or the ownership of a NBA team. Michael is there. He now owns the Charlotte Bobcats and we will all get to see how well he can do when he is totally in charge. The Charlotte Bobcat franchise has struggled from day one and former majority owner Bob Johnson has 300 million in an expansion fee and 30 million in working capital that he is trying to get back. The franchise has steadily lost big bucks.
Michael Jordan was the General Manager in Washington for the Wizards and could not be judged to have done a great job in any shape or form. Now he is back in North Carolina where he was a great college star and has control of the reigns in Charlotte.
In Charlotte, Jordan’s best moves have included hiring coach Larry Brown and trading for Stephen Jackson, Tyrus Thomas and Boris Diaw. Other moves, including drafting Adam Morrison and hiring former coach Sam Vincent, were more questionable.
The Bobcats are in contention for what would be the franchise’s first playoff spot. Friday night they beat the Memphis Grizzlies to break a three-game losing streak.
Jordan’s purchase of the team is subject to approval by owners of the other 29 NBA franchises. However, he already has the endorsement of league commissioner David Stern.

If the money is there and Michael is still lining up investors, then David Stern has to like the idea of Michael Jordan being an owner. Anything attached to the Michael Jordan name has been gold and Stern would love to get the college basketball Mecca heavily involved in professional basketball. Stern is always looking for ways to increase the revenue structure of the league.
Michael just seems to attract interest. Coach Larry Brown, a definite plus to the organization, has flat out said that he is only there because of Michael Jordan.

Zach Randolph overwhelmed them with his scoring and rebounding. Tracy McGrady lasted 15 minutes before calling it a night. Good thing all the New York Knicks’ moves are for the future. Because if they were about the present, all of them backfired Saturday night. Randolph had 31 points and a career-high 25 rebounds against his former team, and the Memphis Grizzlies beat the Knicks 120-109 to tie a…
