There is Nobody on this Planet that is perfect; each and everyone of us has done something that we wish we could take back. Your Old Pal New York Vinnie has made more than my share of mistakes in life; fortunately none of which that had long lasting ramifications. However there were plenty of guys from New York Vinnie’s neighborhood who just kept spiraling downward.

Those guys have paid the price one way or the other; some have realized they only have themselves to blame. There are others though that feel that they were singled out; and it was the “SYSTEM” that was to blame for their bad deeds.  Those folks will keep getting in trouble every time they have the chance for they do not accept responsibility for their actions.

You can not correct a problem until you acknowledge that problem exists. Once you accept responsibility for doing wrong than you can come up with ways to solve it; as well as keeping you from repeating your actions. Now it took a while for Gilbert Arenas to make a sincere apology about his actions that led to his being suspended for the rest of the season back in January by NBA Commissioner David Stern back in January. The “Associated Press” reported Monday that the Washington Wizards guard in an interview with “Esquire Magazine” feels that any punishment he receives is something he brought on himself. 

The magazine will be on news stands next week but the “Associated Press” was given an advance copy according to the report. The veteran says he feels especially bad about letting down the legacy of Team Owner Abe Pollin who passed away last November. Arenas admitted to the magazine he did not think the situation through when he brought guns into the Wizards locker room. He said that what had started as a joke with Washington guard Javaris Crittenton escalated into an ugly turn of events. An arguement during a card game resulted in both players brandishing weapons; even though nothing further took place that alone is beyond the pale.

The suspended player told the magazine that he had recently placed a call to Pollin’s widow expressing his remorse about his actions and how it ruined the team’s season. Arenas said “I have a painting of him in my garage. I just walk by it with my head down. I called Mrs. Pollin and said, ‘If Abe was still with us, I would’ve had to talk to him, so I’m gonna give you the same respect. I want to say sorry to you. I deserve to be punished. I’ll do everything it takes to get back your husband’s respect.”

New York Vinnie can only speak for myself; however I am willing to give the Wizards star another chance. Up until this past season he was known as one of the “Good Guys” in the NBA. Yes, he made a Frickin HUGE mistake but thankfully nobody was hurt and there was no lasting damage. And from this interview he seems truly remorseful. So Gilbert; New York Vinnie will give you a fresh start as I am sure most NBA fans will. Just don’t let us; or better yet yourself down again!
